Tectonic Elements of NW Himalaya
06 days (27 July – 01 August, 2016)

This time, our Tectonic Elements of NW Himalaya series took us to Chitral, a scenic town located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. We were excited to explore the unique geology of this area, known for its complex tectonic history.
We set out early in the morning, ready for our first day of fieldwork. We hiked through rugged terrain, observing the various rock formations along the way. Our guides shared their extensive knowledge of the area’s geology, pointing out the intricate folds and fault lines that make this region so geologically fascinating.
As we delved deeper into our study, we were amazed by the sheer diversity of rock formations in Chitral. From granite to quartzite, sandstone to limestone, the area is a treasure trove of geological wonders. We also learned about the rich history and culture of the region, adding an extra layer of interest to our trip.
The highlight of our expedition was a visit to the famous Chitral Gol National Park, home to stunning alpine landscapes and a range of unique flora and fauna. Here we hiked through mountainous terrain, observing the breathtaking scenery and studying the rock formations that make this area so special.
Our trip to Chitral was a truly unforgettable experience. We were able to witness first-hand the incredible geological wonders of this area and gain a deeper understanding of its rich history and culture. We can’t wait to continue exploring the unique tectonic elements of the NW Himalaya in future expeditions.
